PHISHING E-MAIL ALERT
A large number of Ohio State e-mail addresses were sent a phishing scam e-mail Sunday (1/27), asking that the user respond with his/her OSU e-mail password. The message itself was addressed "Dear OSU Webmail User." Once again, the message is a scam, and was not sent by the Office of Information Technology or anyone else within Ohio State. Do not reply to the message. If you have already replied, go to OIT’s Account Management Web site and change your password immediately. Additional information can be found at http://8help.osu.edu/status/933.html.
PROTECTED HEALTH INFORMATION BY OSUMC STAFF POLICY REVISED (from OSU Today)
Use of Protected Health Information by OSUMC staff policy has been revised, based on extensive involvement with the OSUMC Research Privacy Committee, and is now in effect. The policy lists approved uses of PHI, for treatment, payment, operations, and research purposes. The associated procedures for use of PHI for research are extensive. The procedure includes: sources of PHI for research, preparatory to research activities, use of patient information in subject recruitment, IRB exempt research, and de-identified patient information, as well as other aspects of research activities. Several tools have been developed to assist the researcher in applying this policy and procedure. Contact Kathleen Ojala at 293-4477 or Tremayne Smith at 293-7672 for more information.
OSU ARCHIVES RECORDS RETENTION REVISIONS (from OSU Today)
The OSU Archives has improved the General Records Retention Schedule for the university to make it easier to use. The number of items has been increased and a category for information technology related records has been added. In addition, the General Records Retention Schedule is now available in a single searchable PDF, designed to open with bookmarks for browsing the different categories, as well as with instructions for searching the PDF. For general questions about retaining and disposing records, contact Tamar Chute at chute.6@osu.edu or 292-3271; for questions in a digital format, contact Dan Noonan at noonan.37@osu.edu or 247-2425.
