BuckeyePass Token Glossary of Terms
Activation Code – the numeric code used during the token activation process. This code is included in the BuckeyePass token request approval email that you receive after you request a token.
Activation Password – the password created during the token request process. This password is necessary to activate your token.
Authentication – The process of identifying yourself and the verification that you're who you say you are.
BuckeyePass Token – the brand for 2-factor authentication. Your BuckeyePass token is the physical device you use to know your tokencode – one of the elements needed for 2-factor authentication.
OSU Internet Username – your lastname.#. For example, flintstone.1 – It is your OSU e-mail address without the @osu.edu.
Passcode – a combination of your alpha-numeric PIN code and your tokencode. If your PIN Code is GoBucks, and your token displays the numbers 123456, your passcode is GoBucks123456.
Password – Password refers to the password that is associated with your OSU Internet Username.
PIN Code – With 2-factor authentication there are two components that you need to provide to authenticate. The two factors are “something you have” and “something you know”. Like when using your ATM Card, the PIN code is something that you must know to authenticate. However, unlike when using your ATM Card, the BuckeyePass PIN code must be a minimum of 4 and a maximum of 8 characters long. It can be either upper or lowercase letters or numbers, or a combination of upper- and lowercase letters and numbers.
Tokencode – a 6-digit number that appears in the display window of your token. This number changes every 60 seconds and there is a small gauge to the left of the numbers that gets smaller as the 60 seconds expire.
User ID – your OSU Internet username (lastname.#).
