SafeComputing is your site to find the answers to common computer security questions. The Ohio State University recognizes that computer security is often a complex and confusing subject. This web page is the home of computing resources meant to help remove the confusion and educate anyone and everyone about information security and internet threats that we all face on a daily basis.
Here you'll find information resources to help you develop good computing habits that will shield you from many of the dangers of the Internet. The site also computer crime today are social and behavioral problems that can be avoided with a little education so SafeComputing also offers tips and best practices to help you avoid the common tricks the bad guys pull to lure you into helping them infect your computer or steal your identity.
Security is often a means of learning when to change our behavior. There is no purely technological solution that will protect you or your computer from the threats that exist today. Take a look around and practice these good habits regularly and soon you'll find that security is second nature. Good practices are not extra work, they are just a way of changing how we accomplish the tasks we already perform when using our computers on a daily basis.

Recently an email began circulating from a source claiming to be The Ohio State University asking people to submit their account information and password for their osu.edu email via email. DO NOT REPLY to this email. This is a phishing attempt and not a legitimate request. OSU's account management system does not request information in this format or through email. Again, this is not a legitimate email, do not respond with any password or personal information! IF you have already responded please go to the OSU account administration page immediately and change your OSU.edu account password. If you are unable to do this, immediately contact 8help to arrange to have them assist you with securing your account.
